A delegation from the Central Bank of the UAE has recently visited the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai to review the best practices & procedures adopted by Internal Audit Department. The visit came in the context of sharing expertise & knowledge with a view to enhancing the performance and bringing it in line with the world’s best practices of the industry. It is recalled that the Department has recently scooped three awards at the government level in the fields of Governance Audit, IT Audit, and Corruption & Fraudulence Audit.
Abdullah Al Jawi, Director of Internal Audit, RTA, welcomed the visitors and reiterated RTA’s keenness to exchange visits with local and federal entities and share knowledge in various fields. “Such visits”, he says, “Aim at achieving the best practices of revamping government performance across the UAE in general and Dubai Emirate in particular. “The Internal Audit Department is committed to adopting the highest local & international standards & practices, and implementing them in advancing the corporate governance such as enhancing the role of monitoring & questioning through audit. Thanks to this policy, the Department has garnered three distinctive awards all about top government practices of the sector nationwide; a testament to the commitment and professional transparency,” explained Al Jawi.
During the meeting, a presentation was made highlighting the values, vision, mission and goals of RTA in general, along with the objectives & core operations of the Internal Audit Department, and the key standards & practices adopted in streamlining its roles & responsibilities. Examples of these standards include internal audit standards of the UAE Institute of Internal Auditors, and the internal audit standards of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
The presentation also covered the role of internal audit in promoting the culture & abilities of employees through attaching them to several international institutes specialized in internal audit. It also highlighted the technological applications adopted by the Department in the form of sophisticated programs for running audit processes at highest levels.
The visiting delegation praised the cooperation of RTA and its commitment to share practical experience with the Bank and avail the benefit from the distinctive business practices in place. They also commended offering them exposure to the highest local & international practices in all fields, especially internal audit.
