The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has exhibited the Reading Advisor initiative as part of the UAE Innovation Week. The initiative is part of RTA efforts to nurture the culture of reading among employees through creative & attractive methods, and realize the policy of the UAE designating 2016 as a Year of Reading.
“We view the UAE Innovation Week as a platform for the RTA to showcase innovative ideas promoting reading and adopting it as a lifestyle,” said Fahad Al Suwaidi, Director of Development and Corporate Performance cum Acting Director of Knowledge & Innovation, Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector at the RTA.
“The Reading Advisor initiative provides for selecting an employee (on a rotational basis) from each sector/agency of the RTA to name the books he or she has read & found interesting and wished to recommend to colleagues to read them. The Reading Advisor has to be a passionate reader and must have effective communication skills of interacting with colleagues & encouraging them to read books of high cognitive & cultural benefits. The Reading Advisor should also have the skill of making an appealing presentation through offering attractive summaries of select books. All Reading Advisors will be honoured during the UAE Innovation Week events.
“The Reading Advisor initiative is part of the Readers Club contest launched by the RTA in 2012. Events of the UAE Innovation Week also included a spot for presenting the book read in a form of Play (drama) on RTA Stage. Such non-conventional presentation of books is intended to deliver knowledge in a different style and an innovative shape to recharge the enthusiasm of employees to read more and improve their skills,” added Al Suwaidi.
“The reading contests are subjected to the assessment of a neutral judges panel to select the best presentation worthy of reward. Every year the RTA develops different means & tools for enticing the largest possible number of employees to read more and more of the books provided in RTA library. The RTA goes further to supply schools with excellent books containing fine values in life, knowledge, and attitudes of benefit to students in shaping their intellects and furthering their knowledge,” he concluded.
