RTA denies agreeing to issue driver license to teenagers aged 16
(12 December 2016)

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai denies a published press report that it had agreed to issue driver licenses to youth aged 16. It confirms that specifying the age limit for driver license applicants is subject to the UAE Federal Traffic Law, and the RTA is an executive entity of this Law; which governs the licensing of drivers.

Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA Licensing Agency, said, “The RTA does not favor reducing the age set for driver license applicants as it is contrary to the principles of traffic safety. The RTA calls for introducing controls & applying to newly licensed drivers in accordance with the top practices applicable in pioneering countries in the field of traffic safety and drivers licensing.”
