The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the official sponsor of the White Jersey in Dubai Tour 2017, has revealed a plan for managing the traffic movement of the Dubai Tour 2017. The fourth edition of the event, which kicks off on the morning of Tuesday, Jan 31st and continues through Saturday, Feb 4th, has attracted 16 teams competing in five stages over a combined distance of 865 km. The Tour starts from Dubai and runs across six Emirates of the UAE.
Engineer Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic & Roads Agency cum Chairperson of the Team Managing Traffic Movement & Operational Plans during Annual Events, said, “RTA is committed to the success of this mega event. It, therefore, coordinates with a number of public and private organizations including Dubai Police, UAE Cycling Federation and Dubai Sports Council, to ensure a safe passage of the participants through the operational team at site.
“Necessary arrangements are in place to manage the traffic movement in coordination with Tour organizers. The Tour will not last more than 10 minutes on every part of the impacted streets, following which the traffic will be restored back to normal. The main signalized junctions will be programmed according to the planned stages & announced timings. The Tour will be crossing some districts & streets of Dubai Emirate from 10:30 am to 03:30 pm as follows:
First stage
The first stage of Dubai Tour starts on Tuesday; 31/01/2017 from Dubai International Marine Sports Club at King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Street to Palm Jumeirah for a distance of about 181 kilometers. It heads towards Sheikh Zayed Road, Jebel Ali-Lehbab Street, Dubai-Al Ain Street, Al Lisaili Street, Al Qudra Street, Emirates Street, Umm Suqeim Street, internal streets in Motor City and internal streets in Dubai Sports City. It also passes by Hesa Street, Al Asayil Street, Qarn Al Sabkha Street, Al Wurood Street, First Al Khail Street, Al Naseem Street, Al Fulk Street, Abdullah Omran Tariam Street, service road along Sheikh Zayed Road, and ends at Palm Jumeirah.
Second stage
The second stage starts on Wednesday 01/02/2017 from Dubai International Marine Sports Club at King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Street and heads towards Ras Al Khaima Emirate over a distance of 187 kilometers. It passes by Umm Suqeim Street, Al Khail Street, Ras Al Khor Street, Al Aweer Street, Emirates Street, then enters Sharjah and goes through Ras Al Khaima.
Third stage
The third stage of Dubai Tour kicks off on Thursday morning, 02/02/2017 on the proposed path from Dubai International Marine Sports Club at King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Street and heads towards Fujairah over a distance of 200 kilometers. It passes by Umm Suqeim Street, Al Khail Street, Ras Al Khor Street, Dubai-Al Ain Street, internal streets of Silicon Oasis, Academic City Street, Al Aweer Street and Emirates Street in the direction of Sharjah and down to the Emirate of Fujairah.
Fourth stage
The fourth stage starts on Friday morning 03/02/2017 from Dubai International Marine Sports Club at King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Street to Hatta over a distance of 172 kilometers. It passes by Umm Suqeim Street, Al Khail Street, Ras Al Khor Street, Aweer Street and Hatta-Oman Street towards the emirates of Sharjah & Fujairah and down to the Hatta.
Fifth Stage
The fifth and final stage kick-starts on Saturday, 04/02/2017 from Dubai International Marine Sports Club at King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Street to Walk City over a distance of 127 kilometers. It passes by Umm Suqeim Street, Al Asayil Street, Oasis Street, First Al Khail Street, Meydan Street, Dubai-Al Ain Street, Oud Metha Street, Al Khail Street, Rabat Street, Tripoli Street, Mushrif Park, Al Khawaneej Street, 222 Street, Tunisia Street, Al Nahda Street, Damascus Street, Baghdad Street and Cairo Street. The route of the Tour also passes on Al Mamzar Beach Street, Al Khaleej Street and Baniyas Street. Crossing through Al Maktoum Bridge, the Tour passes on Khalid bin Waleed Street, Al Musalla Street in Bur Dubai, Al Fahidi Street, Ali bin Abi Talib Street, Ghubaiba Street, Al Falah Street, Al Khaleej Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, Jumeirah Street, Umm Al Sheef Street, Al Wasl Street, Al Safa Street, and down to the Finish point in City Walk.
Maitha reiterated RTA’s keenness to ease the traffic flow in streets through which the Tour passes in all five stages right from the starting point of the First Stage at Dubai International Marine Club at King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud St. to Palm Jumeirah and up to the Fifth Stage heading to the Finish Point at City Walk. Dubai Tour has become one of the prominent sports events added to the galaxy of mega events in the sports map of Dubai, she noted.
She urged road users to cooperate with the bodies concerned to ensure the success of the event by adhering to the traffic instructions and directional signage set for streamlining the traffic movement in the said locations in Dubai Emirate over the five days of the Dubai Tour. Such compliance is vital for the safety of road users and realizing RTA’s vision of Safe and Smooth Transport for All, concluded Maitha.
