The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has paid visits to cheer up affiliates of the Emirates Center for Rehabilitation of Disabled, Sheikha Metha bint Rashid Al Maktoum Center for Special Needs in Hatta (an affiliate of Al Maktoum Foundation), Al Amal School for the Deaf in Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, and the Dubai Center for Special Needs. RTA has also hosted visits to KidZania in Dubai for several schools namely: 2nd December School, JSS International School and The Philippine School. The visits were arranged in the context of RTA’s social responsibility strategy and in line with the UAE’s initiative designating 2017 as a Year of Giving.
Yousef Al Reda, CEO of RTA’s Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector said, “These visits manifest the human dimension we are seeking to show during The Year of Giving through holding entertaining visits to the disabled or students. They also offer us a great chance to epitomise the ethical and humanitarian nature of The Year of Giving under a strategy to enhance our social responsibility at several fronts. Bringing happiness to these categories serves one of the key objectives of the initiative.
“Traffic awareness workshops were held during the visits along with story-reading and socialising with the cartoons of RTA’s Salama Magazine. The disabled and students were engaged in RTA’s awareness contest inspired by the Snake and Ladder game and were offered gifts that added to the hilarious and fun atmosphere,” added Al Reda.
Mohammed Obaid bin Ghannam, Secretary General of Al Maktoum Foundation, said, “RTA’s visit to the Sheikha Metha bint Rashid Al Maktoum Center at Hatta had had a huge impact in easing the psychological impacts of the disabled. It also reflects RTA’s attention to care for these categories through events contributing immensely to integrating them into the community. Events held also demonstrate the capabilities of these individuals in terms of self-reliance and self-identification through engaging them in a series of superb contests.
