Dubai Culture Launches Annual ’Our Summer Is Art & Culture’ Programme
(9 July 2018)

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate's dedicated entity for culture, arts, heritage and literature, has announced the launch of its annual ‘Our Summer is Art & Culture’ programme, which is organised by Dubai Public Library and will run from 14th July to 9th August across six branches: Al Twar, Al Rashidiya, Hor Al Anz, Al Mankhool, Umm Suqeim and Hatta.

The programme is designed for children between the ages of 6 to 12 and includes specialised interactive workshops, various creative, innovation, art and scientific activities, and a number of reading and storytelling workshops. The activities aim to encourage children to adopt reading as a natural habit in their daily lives and develop their skills in scientific research, rhetoric and writing. Throughout the programme, children will also find fun and entertainment through regular cultural and interactive competitions. The activities will be presented in both Arabic and English.

Dr. Hissa bin Masoud, Director of Dubai Public Library at Dubai Culture, said: “Year on year, our summer programme attracts a large number of students and citizens, and contributes to achieving Dubai Public Library’s objective of positively building future generations. We look forward to improving students' skills and helping to reveal their multiple talents via a series of rich intellectual activities. The activities also support the relationship students have with reading and allow them to make use of their annual vacation in a cultural atmosphere that is fun and informative, combining culture and science with arts, entertainment and play.”

Dr. Hissa added: “Such activities contribute to supporting the National Reading Strategy 2026, enhancing the knowledge and skills of the new generation, and furthering our mission to empower the cultural, heritage, arts and literature sectors to bring happiness to our community, This year's edition is particularly special as it takes place during the ‘Year of Zayed 2018’ and supports the culture and knowledge strategic category of the initiative.”

This year's programme will include two camps, the first of which will be held between 14th and 26th July from 10:00am to 1:30pm and 4:00 to 7:30. The second camp will be held during the same hours from 28th July to 9th August.

The activities will attract literary and artistic talents thanks to the availability of writing and creative workshops. This will help the participants to constantly develop their skills by taking advantage of the holiday and enjoying various activities to enliven their summer vacation routine.

The Dubai Public Library network includes eight libraries for adults and another seven for children. Some branches feature multi-purpose halls, classrooms and exhibition spaces, and all branches of the Dubai Public Library are connected via computer systems. This has established close links with other modern libraries, providing access to vast sources of information on a diversity of topics in both Arabic and English.
