Dubai Chamber Raises Awareness On CSR In The Third Edition Of ’CSR Al Youm’
(17 July 2018)

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Centre for Responsible Business has published the third edition of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) newsletter ‘CSR Al Youm’ for 2018, with the new issue containing articles and updates on the centre’s progress in spreading awareness about the importance of CSR.

The latest issue of “CSR Al Youm” in 2018 highlights the most prominent news and activities of the Centre Responsible Business and includes local and global articles on CSR, sustainability and green buildings. Among the developments it reveals is the Emirates Exchange initiative on promoting the use of legal channels for money transfer. Targeting the Bangladeshi community in the UAE, the article is aimed at raising the level of awareness about the use of licenced transfer channels when sending money to Asia.

The newsletter also includes an interview with Dr. Mohamed Osmani, Director of the Architectural Engineering and Design Management Program at the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering at Loughborough University, UK. In it, Dr. Osmani talks about the importance of CSR in reducing building waste and reveals that construction companies holding corporate waste management policies tend to have advantages in tendering for new projects.

The bulletin’s main article focuses on green buildings and their positive impact on cities and society. It highlights Dubai Chamber’s achievement in being awarded a U.S. Green Building Council LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating for reducing water and energy consumption at its head office. The building was consequently awarded a Platinum rating – the highest in the category – and is the first building in the Arab world to receive the accreditation. The accolade reflects the high reputation of Dubai Chamber in the area of community responsibility, resource management and green buildings.

Dr. Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Business Development Sector, Dubai Chamber, emphasised the significant role played by the Centre for Responsible Business in spreading awareness about CSR and its positive impact on business, cities and society in general.

He stressed The newsletter’s importance in highlighting the latest initiatives relating to CSR and sustainability, in addition to helping businesses in the emirate incorporate CSR practices into their strategies.

The Centre for Responsible Business was established by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2004 to support and promote corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability. The Centre’s objective is to engage the Dubai business community in assuming greater responsibility for the emirate’s social and environmental needs. The CRB also promotes Dubai as the GCC’s gateway for global commerce by offering its business partners an environment of transparency and rule of law.
