Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) launched its Ramadan Sports Tournament 2018, which will continue until 8 July 2018 at the Sheikh Saeed Hall in Dubai World Trade Centre. The Tournament includes badminton, basketball, volleyball, football, tennis and cricket. In addition, DEWA’s teams are also participating in the wheelchair basketball at Dubai Club for People of Determination, NAS Bicycle, and NAS Night Challenge, as part of the Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament 2018 activities. This is part of DEWA's keenness to enhance employee happiness and make sports an active part of the culture of Emirati society.
“DEWA is committed to fulfilling its social responsibility and towards achieving the happiness of its employees. This supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the happiest city in the world and to make sports a part of the culture of Emirati society. We are happy to encourage DEWA staff from various departments and sectors to make physical activities an essential component of their daily lives and practice daily, by engaging them in various sports championships, and establishing internal sport events and activities at DEWA. Sport has a great impact on self-improvement, skill enhancement, teamwork, positive thinking, strengthening family bonds and enabling staff from various departments and sectors to get to know each other outside working hours. This enhances their loyalty and positively affects their professional and personal lives. We are committed to annually host the Ramadan Sports Tournament for our staff, to enrich the noble values of the Holy Month, and promote happiness and positivity, in a work environment that stimulates creativity and production," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
Al Tayer noted that DEWA is one of the leading government organisations to support sports in the UAE, by organising internal tournaments, and participating in various national and international competitions and championships.
“The Ramadan Sports Tournaments comes within the framework of DEWA's efforts to involve employees in various activities that are beneficial to them and DEWA, including the various cultural, social and sports activities that benefit employees at the humanitarian, personal and professional levels. DEWA believes that human resources are its real capital, and therefore spares no effort to work on their happiness and provide all the necessary support to develop their capabilities and unleash their potential to a broad horizon of creativity and innovation in a unique environment dominated by the spirit of harmony and human and cultural rapprochement,” said Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources and Chairman of the Sports Committee at DEWA.
DEWA sponsors 6th NAS Sports Tournament during Ramadan. Organising the Ramadan Sports Tournament 2018 follows the continuous success achieved by the championship year after year in terms of the number of individuals and teams participating, and the development of performance and the promotion of positivity and happiness.
