Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has issued directives to start preparations for the fourth edition of the Dubai Investment Week (DIW) to be held from 7 to 11 October 2018. DIW seeks to further raise the profile of Dubai as a strategic and futuristic city as well as a gateway to regional markets and a global business hub.
His Highness stressed on the importance of strengthening partnerships with the local and international investment community. He said it was important to develop a comprehensive overview of the current and future investment environment and opportunities in all economic sectors. He called on strengthening efforts to promote partnerships between the public and private sector to support the objectives of the UAE National Agenda 2021 and the Dubai Plan 2021.
Sheikh Hamdan further said the Dubai Investment Week, organised by Dubai Investment Development Agency (Dubai FDI), an agency of the Dubai Department of Economic Development, has significantly supported Dubai’s effort to facilitate growth, partnerships and innovative opportunities for the investor community, in addition to identifying unique opportunities for investment as well as regional and global growth. DIW has also played a major role in helping assess the progress achieved in realising government strategies.
The Dubai Investment Week, which will be held under the theme of ‘Investing in Future Transformation’, will focus on the role of foreign investment in shaping the future. The event will also be an opportunity to highlight Dubai’s rapid growth, its ability to attract substantial foreign investments in a short period of time and its success in providing a growth platform for emerging companies. The event will also showcase investment opportunities being generated by Expo 2020.
CEO of Dubai Investment Development Agency (Dubai FDI) Fahad Al Gergawi highlighted the importance of the topics that will be discussed at Dubai Investment Week. The event will focus on the key drivers of future growth such as digital transformation and investing in emerging companies. Dubai offers attractive investment opportunities in the areas of advanced technology, research and development and smart services, he pointed out.
Digital Transformation Leadership
Al Gergawi further said that the leadership of Dubai is developing regulatory frameworks to support new business models. The emirate is also an early adopter of the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution such as artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies in production, transport, distribution, marketing and public services. Dubai is one of the world’s most attractive cities for investments and provides the talent, robust infrastructure and legislative framework necessary to support digital transformation and knowledge economy growth, he added. The world’s leading international companies in the field of digital transformation have chosen Dubai as their global and regional headquarters for R & D and innovation due to the high levels of productivity, competitiveness and return on investment they gain out of basing themselves in the city.
Investment in emerging companies
Dubai is one of the most attractive cities for emerging companies from around the world. There are many success stories of Dubai-based start-ups expanding regionally and internationally and attracting foreign investments within a short period of time. Dubai is constantly creating new opportunities for start-ups and small and medium enterprises in sustainable development and digital transformation. Expo 2020 Dubai is one of the projects that provides these companies considerable new opportunities.
Dubai’s leadership in the adoption and promotion of ‘Impact FDI’, aims to accelerate the pace of the private sector’s contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 set by the United Nations. Dubai has launched various initiatives like the ‘Hamdan Centre for the Future of Investment’ to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
New investment opportunities
