The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, provides individual and group counselling services to its employees, through its Employee Assistance Programme, "Estisharati," which is the first of its kind provided by a government organisations in the UAE and operates in co-operation with two counselling centres and several psychologists who speak various languages.
The programme is part of DEWA’s efforts to enhance the satisfaction of its employees and provide a stimulating and positive work environment.
DEWA’s Employee Happiness Department launched the programme in December 2016, to help solve the personal issues of its employees, ease their daily pressures, and improve their work performance and productivity.
DEWA has so far provided individual counselling to 102 staff members, including four who are people of determination, based on the outcomes of the stress test survey that was conducted by the department. The survey measures the workload of staff, assesses their requirements and monitors their work environment, to encourage creativity and excellence. The programme’s team also held several sessions on the programme’s importance and its benefits at DEWA’s headquarters, as well as its branches in Al Quoz, Al Warsan, Al Hudaiba and Jebel Ali.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said, "DEWA has various programmes to satisfy and meet the needs of its employees, as well as to support them in their careers and personal lives. DEWA takes responsibility for its staff and prioritises community work. Over the past few years, DEWA’s efforts have increased community satisfaction and happiness levels to 83.22 percent in 2017."
