Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, Women’s Committee has launched a ‘Run for Zayed’ sports activity in line with celebrating the ‘Year of Zayed’ in the UAE. This is also part of DEWA's participation in the UAE National Sports Day 2018.
The event aims to encourage female employees to exercise running and jogging on a 3-kilometre track in Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park, and to develop their sports spirit.
"DEWA Women's Committee organised the running activity for its female staff to commemorate and honour the legacy of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and perpetuate the memory of his support for women and sports in the UAE. The event also strengthens the efforts of Dubai in cultivating women's sport within our society, as per the leadership’s direction to promote sport within the culture and society of the UAE across all sectors," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
"DEWA organises sports events for its female employees throughout the year. The women's sports teams participate in many sports competitions at all levels and have achieved excellent results and won many titles in individual and group games in those competitions," added Al Tayer.
Khawla Al Mehairi, Chairperson of DEWA Women’s Committee, said that these initiatives help women realise an active and vibrant lifestyle full of positive energy, and strengthens communication and social cohesion among all.
