A delegation from the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia), under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), participated in the Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum. The Forum was held under the patronage and in the presence of King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, and was organised by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid & Relief Centre. The Forum was held under the title, ‘Humanitarian action is a global responsibility’.
Suqia’s delegation included HE Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry for International Cooperation and Development and Member of the Board of Trustees of Suqia, and Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia, emphasised the importance of participating in the Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum. The Forum is the first of its kind in the region, and is a platform to cooperate to develop and find sustainable and effective solutions to the challenges faced by organisations in humanitarian work. Al Tayer commended the role of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid & Relief Centre for organising the Forum, and for its interest in finding practical solutions to issues that serve humanity.
“Suqia works under the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in line with the Year of Zayed, to support the UAE's efforts to celebrate the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Suqia aims to improve the living conditions of poor and afflicted communities, and find sustainable and innovative solutions to water scarcity around the world through studies, research, and projects using solar power to provide clean water,” said Al Tayer.
Suqia is committed to cooperate with charity and humanitarian organisations. The Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum is an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience in humanitarian work.
“The UAE is keen to participate in finding solutions to the challenges facing humanity. At Suqia, we cooperate with various organisations to find sustainable and innovative solutions to the global water crisis, and to provide safe drinking water for poor communities,” said Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi.
Suqia’s projects have benefited over 8 million people so far in 25 countries. During the Year of Giving, Suqia implemented 85 development projects in 21 countries, benefiting over 550,000 people.
