As part of its efforts to support corporate social responsibility, sustainability and energy saving initiatives, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has announced that it will be participating in the global Earth Hour campaign on Saturday, March 24th 2018.
The Chamber will be switching off all lights and air-conditioning at its headquarters in Deira between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on Saturday. This marks the 11th consecutive year that Dubai Chamber’s is supporting the annual energy-saving event.
Commenting on the Chamber’s participation, Rami Halawani, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Dubai Chamber said: “By participating in this global initiative, we are sending a clear message and raising awareness about the importance of protecting the environment. We are also encouraging Chamber staff and the business community in Dubai to join this campaign and take steps to reduce their energy use throughout the year as well. Over the last decade, we have seen growing participation in Earth Hour among our members and companies in Dubai, which reflects a stronger commitment to adopting more responsible business practices.”
Every year, organisations and individuals around the world take part in Earth Hour by turning off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness of the need to take action on climate change.
The annual event, the world’s largest grassroots movement for action on climate change, is being marked by several public and private sector organisations in the UAE, as well as households and landmarks across the country.
