UAE Food Bank’s Sponsorship Strategy Approved
(25 March 2018)

The UAE Food Bank’s Board of Trustees recently approved its strategy of sponsorship privileges.

The strategy emphasises the need to allow for the participation of all sectors of society in different categories of sponsorship of the food bank, especially as the UAE is one of the leading countries in the field of charitable work.

Khalid Mohammed Sharif Al Awadhi, Assistant Director-General of Dubai Municipality for Environment, Health and Safety Sector and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the UAE Food Bank, said that the Board of Trustees has approved a number of rules and regulations regarding those wishing to partner with the UAE Food Bank to achieve various objectives, including broadening the sponsors' base for the initiative, as well as expanding promotion of the initiative by sponsors and awareness of the bank's goals, both locally and internationally.

He said the initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai in January 2017, under the chairmanship of his wife, H.H. Sheikha Hind Al Maktoum, has received a positive response worldwide, offering a wide range of humanitarian and social dimensions.

Al Awadhi explained that the bank's sponsors are classified into four categories: the Sustainable Sponsor, the Main Sponsor, the Specialised/Exclusive Sponsor and the Individual Sponsor.

Noting that sustainable sponsorship is continuous and for an indefinite period of time, he said, "The sponsor guarantees all the construction costs of the bank's sites, including infrastructure costs, the purchase of food storage containers, generators, as well as subsequent annual operating costs, such as the salaries and privileges of the bank staff and the logistic services.

"As for the main sponsor, a number of rules have been set for this type of sponsorship, such as that the sponsorship is for a specific period of time and the financial sponsorship should be provided as a lump sum amount with a specific financial ceiling. This type of sponsorship gives the food bank the right to spend the sponsorship cost in the areas of expenditure it deems appropriate to support the programme.

"With respect to the specialised or exclusive sponsors, the sponsorship may be either financial or in kind. It is not restricted in time and is subject to technical conditions set by the UAE Food Bank and Dubai Municipality," he said.

Al Awadhi added that the bank has granted special privileges to all categories of sponsors.
