Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage, celebrated the ‘Earth Hour’ initiative on Saturday 24th March 2018 via several events that were open to the public.
The first event saw Dubai Culture’s corporate social responsibility team participating in Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s ‘Earth Hour’ celebrations via an interactive live wall painting session for the public overseen by artist Abdulrahman Al Muaini, which was attended by Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General of Dubai Culture, in addition to seniors officials from the Authority.
The second event was held at SIKKA Art Fair, which runs from 17th to 26th March 2018 at Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, where lights were switched off in the main courtyard, stage and main alley. There was also a drumming circle for everyone in the main courtyard, with only candles used as lighting throughout the event, followed by a live performance by the opera singer Murat Selim Ozturk during the celebrations.
‘Earth Hour’ is an international event that raises awareness of the dangers of climate change and aims to generate innovative solutions to reducing electricity consumption and seeking alternative and safe sources of energy. In the UAE, ‘Earth Hour’ is one of the most important environmental events of the year.
SIKKA Art Fair complements the city-wide activation of cultural events taking place during the fifth edition of Dubai Art Season, which runs throughout March and April 2018 and features events such as the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, Art Dubai, DIFC Art Nights and the Middle East Film & Comic Con, among hundreds of other initiatives.
Dubai Culture aims to enhance Dubai’s cultural scene and draw attention to the Emirate’s rich heritage with a variety of initiatives that take place throughout the year. The Authority’s mandate is to build bridges of constructive dialogue between different civilisations and cultures through enriching initiatives that benefit the Emirate’s citizens, residents and visitors.
