Artist And Celebrity Favourite Robi Walters Exhibits For First Time In The UAE
(11 March 2018)
West Contemporary presents works of acclaimed British Artist at Capital Club Dubai

Globally renowned contemporary artist, Robi Walters will showcase his mixed media work in Dubai for the very first time, at the DIFC Art Nights on 19th March, followed by an exhibition at the Capital Club, DIFC until 30th June 2018. Presented by West Contemporary, the acclaimed British artist is renowned for his collaborations with celebrities such as Sir Paul McCartney, U2 and Mary J Blige, with the likes of Bryan Adams, Thandie Newton, Usain Bolt and Michael Bublé all collectors of his work.

Robi’s works focus on transforming recycled materials such as card, plastic and even broken records, into vibrant and hypnotic pieces of art that are primarily based on symbolic geometric shapes. With the origin of the petal shape forming the core of his exhibition, Robi repeats this in his work with a thousand-petal lotus flower, representing the infinite whole.

Following the huge success of the Carne Griffiths, ‘FLIGHT’ exhibition which was revealed in November at Capital Club, Robi Walters is the latest in a series of artists showcases by West Contemporary. Exclusive to the Capital Club, Robi will celebrate his first exhibition in the region by paying homage to the familiar UAE flag colours within a large petal artwork. He will also be signing his recently launched book, 365: Every Day Counts, inspired by a conversation with Turner Prize winning artist, Chris Ofili who encouraged him to make a piece of art every single day. Each book cover is hand-painted and inside features a piece of art made every day during 2011. Each one includes a news headline from that day making it a mix of collectible time capsule and work of art.

Robi Walters said, “I come across many things that have been abandoned and find something more in them than their apparent worthlessness. Everything is sacred; there is an intrinsic beauty and value in everything. I hope the viewer is inspired by the essence of my work and ultimately feels some kind of fundamental spiritual connection as well as enjoying the aesthetics."

Repeated throughout his work, the lotus symbolises Robi’s daily practice of meditation, an activity which is closely entwined with the method and process of his art, and the meditative state he achieves whilst he is working. Taking time and dedication to prepare, his work aims to transport the viewer to the very place that created them, to a sacred place that often helps them re-adjust, bringing them gently back into the present moment.

Ian Palmer, General Manager, the Capital Club Dubai says “Robi’s spiritual sense of creativity is as refreshing as it is visually stunning, while his use of recycled materials inspires us all to appreciate that everything has a use. His celebrity following is proof of his talent and we are honoured to host his first exhibition in Dubai.”
