HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), welcomed HE Saeed bin Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman and CEO of Meydan Group, to DEWA Head Office. The meeting was attended by Jia Zhiqiang, President of China Electric Power and Technology Co, who headed his company’s delegation.
The meeting was also attended by Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power, and Yousef Jebril, Executive Vice President of Power, Water & Planning.
During the meeting, Al Tayer welcomed the delegation, and discussed cooperation between DEWA and Meydan Group. He highlighted that DEWA holds periodic meetings with developers and partners to enhance joint work, and support projects. This supports the UAE Vision 2021 to secure a happy future and a better life for future generations and raise UAE’s status as the best country in the world, as well as the Dubai Plan 2021, to assure the future of Dubai.
Al Tayer talked about DEWA’s commitment to provide Meydan’s projects, and other ambitious projects in Dubai, with electricity and water services, according to their schedules. DEWA oversees the completion of these projects closely to ensure coordination and cooperation in all stages of implementation.
The meeting also discussed issues of interest to developers and contractors in Dubai. Al Tayer highlighted Dubai’s international competitiveness indicators, as well as DEWA’s efforts to enhance its total production capacity, which is currently 10,200MW of electricity and 470 million imperial gallons of desalinated water per day (MIGD). Al Tayer also listed DEWA’s global achievements, in the field of reliability, availability and efficiency of production, transmission and distribution of electricity and water services. DEWA has achieved competitive results, surpassing leading European and American companies by reducing losses in power transmission and distribution networks to 3.3%, compared to 6-7% in Europe and the USA. Water losses decreased to 7.1%, compared to 15% in North America, achieving global results in reducing water losses. DEWA’s results are among the best internationally for customer minutes lost per year. DEWA recorded 2.68 minutes, compared to 15 minutes by leading utilities in the European Union.
