First Arab Land Conference Kicks-Off Today
(25 February 2018)
The conference attracts over 200 participants, ministers and dignitaries

The first edition of the ‘First Arab Land Conference’, which is organised by Dubai Land Department (DLD), was launched today and will run for three days until 28th February.

The ‘First Arab Land Conference’ is aligned with the ‘UAE Innovation Month 2018’ and held in partnership with the World Bank, Global Land Tool Network (GLTN), UN-Habitat, The Arabian Union for Surveying, and The League of Arab States.

His Excellency Sultan Butti bin Mejren, Director General of DLD, commented: “Organising the first edition of the ‘First Arab Land Conference’ confirms our regional leadership in this field. We look forward to presenting our advanced experience to delegates from sister countries, especially as the conference aims to exchange knowledge, promote regional cooperation, and develop capacity and innovation in land management and real estate reform to enhance social and economic development in the Arab region.”

DLD confirmed that over 300 participants are registered to attend the conference, including numerous ministers and senior government officials, as well as specialists, academics and representatives from the private sector, donor agencies and civil society.

The conference is focused on the Arab region and topics including access to land for sustainable businesses and investments, and a review of housing and land policy. Participants will review the new technologies that are supporting land and property registration systems, property and tax assessment policies, education, research, and building abilities in land policy, regulation and management, in addition to methods for protecting the land and property rights of women, displaced persons and refugees.

Bin Mejren added: “The Arab region is witnessing a decade of profound change, with notable progress in some countries coupled with difficulties in others. At the same time, we cannot overlook the needs and priorities of individuals, and the distinct economic and social problems

we are facing. Despite national differences, commonalities and regional trends can be observed across the Arab countries.”

Experts in this area consider growing awareness of the way land is organised, used and managed as an essential component of driving sustainable social and economic development, and of protecting human rights and aspirations in the region. The first ‘Arab Land Conference’ offers a platform for discussing national expertise and the latest research, interventions and innovations in the land sector.

The conference programme includes ministerial meetings, technical round tables, research presentations and workshops, as well as side events.
