Smart Dubai marked UAE Innovation Month with a workshop titled “Inspiration and Implementation” in order to encourage its team members to innovate at work, as well as to develop their skills and introduce them to international smart-transformation success stories.
More than 120 employees from the Smart Dubai Office (SDO), the Smart Dubai Government Establishment (SDG), and Dubai Data Establishment took part in the workshop, along with smart-city experts from Denmark and Norway, to explore international best practice. The workshop is part of a series of sessions to be held with the objective of promoting innovation and creativity among employees at various government departments, as per directives from the UAE leadership.
The workshop was conducted by Kim Moller, CEO of Oxford Research; Ered Thurmer, CEO of AF Thurmer; and Tom Olsson, CEO of Miles Norway. Participants discussed a number of ideas and visions, including performance efficiency; the importance of creating a positive and happy work environment; promoting mutual trust between all parties, and ways to transform future plans into projects.
Smart Dubai’s Director General, Her Excellency Dr Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr said: “Smart Dubai is committed to empowering its employees and enhancing their skills, by creating an inspiring work environment that engages and includes them in Dubai’s smart transformation projects, and motivates them to innovate and actively participate in the process.”
“Smart Dubai imports bold ideas that seek to spread happiness in the emirate while exporting its advanced smart-city standards to the world,” Dr. Aisha added. “To do so, we rely on our employees; our human resources are our strongest asset to guaranteeing success. Trust is the strongest bond between employee and employer; with that in mind, we are always working to foster trust between institutions and their employees, encouraging them to exchange ideas, embrace innovation, and provide the necessary support and motivation for employees to come up with innovative projects and come forward with constructive ideas that can transform Dubai into the smartest and happiest city in the world.”
The workshop comes on the heels of the field visit organised by Smart Dubai late last year to Denmark and Norway, which sought to explore future projects and work-environment development plans in both those countries. The trip provided Smart Dubai’s employees with the knowledge and skills they need to develop confidence in themselves and the institutions they belong to.
Smart Dubai is planning to organise three additional workshops – besides “Inspiration and Implementation” – in the near future, which are set to identify the best uses for modern technologies to meet the needs of human beings. The upcoming workshops will also discuss the main traits of successful leaders and effective work teams, as well as mechanisms for creating constructive dialogue and sourcing future ideas and visions.
