Enhanced Communication Skills Among Top Goals In UAE’s Educational Strategy 2010-2020 Program
Improving Communication and language skills are among the top priorities in the UAE Ministry of Education’s ongoing Educational Strategy 2010-2020 campaign. Under the program, the national curriculum will be restructured to elevate student competencies to the highest international standards. The Federal National Council emphasizes the need to focus on communication in particular to enhance the global competitiveness of the UAE’s University students. The Council notes that many pupils entering their tertiary phase of education are two or more years below their grade level in terms of reading and writing and thus require effective reinforcement of communication skills. The Canadian University of Dubai, a leading university, teaching and research institution in the UAE, has launched two new Academic Programs in response to the government’s call for strategic educational reforms. Its additional Bachelor Degree in Mass Communications and English Language & Translation are designed to develop highly-qualified communicators capable of using information technologies and electronic media to serve the interests of their communities. The University’s Mass Communications program delivers total proficiency in the English language and familiarity with modern IT and multimedia tools. Enrollees have the option of specializing in Journalism (Print and Electronic), Advertising, and Public Relations. The English Language and Translation tract, on the other hand, is essential for students who want to pursue careers in translation, education, advertising, marketing and other fields where advanced English communication skills are a must. “Key educational reforms are needed to enhance student learning across the UAE and boost national achievement. Our new Programs are designed to maximize the participation of youths not only in academe and business but in the socio-political context as well. The Canadian University of Dubai will continue to be actively involved in programs and campaigns that will take the quality of education in the UAE to the next level,” said Dr. Muhammed Kabir, Vice President of Academic Affairs for the Canadian University of Dubai. The Canadian University of Dubai will feature its latest programs and other academic offerings under its School of Business Administration, School of Architecture and Interior Design, School of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology, and School of Environment and Health Sciences during GETEX Spring 2011 Dubai, the largest education event in the Middle East and Asia. Running from April 14 to April 16, 2011 at the Sheikh Saeed Halls of the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, GETEX will act as a vital platform for the university to showcase its unique blend of Canadian-based education and deep appreciation for the culture and values of the UAE and participate in timely discussions on the region’s top educational issues. Established in 2006, the Canadian University of Dubai currently offers 17 degree programs accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research with six more programs currently under development. CUD currently serves 1200 students from over 80 nationalities at its Dubai campus strategically located in the heart of Dubai’s Financial, Business and Tourist district.
