Dubai Healthcare City today announces the first Barraquer UAE Eye Hospital in the Middle East, one of world’s leading eye clinics from Spain that will be located in the free zone’s Phase 2 expansion in Al Jaddaf.
The new hospital, which is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2020, will bring to Dubai and the region its medical and surgical expertise in eye care that has been honed since 1941 at the Barraquer Ophthalmology Center in Barcelona. The Center specializes in research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management of eye diseases, providing comprehensive eye care to patients from over 90 countries worldwide.
The Dubai branch will offer a range of services covering diagnosis and surgery – cornea, conjunctiva, refractive and glaucoma specialties among others - through outpatient consultations as well as inpatient treatments. The Hospital will have 10 beds and emergency care 24/7.
Dr. Ramadan AlBlooshi, Chief Regulatory Officer, Dubai Healthcare City Authority, commented on the importance of specialised care. “Providing highly-specialised care increases access to quality care, improves patient outcomes and provides continuity of care in complex cases for residents. Over the years, Dubai Healthcare City has strived to increase this very portfolio of specialist services. It makes us proud to welcome Barraquer UAE Eye Hospital, a reputed provider of ophthalmology services to the free zone. The Hospital will also focus on training and education, delivering on Dubai’s promise to build a knowledge-based economy.”
Spread over 13,000 square metres, the six-floor Hospital is a joint venture between Barraquer and financial partner Grandis Capital Investment Company, whereas the construction is being handled by Emirates Link Maltauro.
Professor Rafael Barraquer, President and Medical Director of the Barraquer Ophthalmology Center, said, “Barraquer advances in its internationalization process in a strategic region that is committed to developing and expanding its health services with the best professionals in each specialty. The prestige of the Barraquer brand has attracted patients from all over the world for many years and, especially, from the Middle East and North Africa. This has been developing a relationship of trust and friendship not only with patients, but with the authorities of these countries.”
Speaking about the project, Dr. Saeed Al Dayeh, Director of Health Projects at Scope Investment and the group, said, “Providing world-class healthcare service is one of the six pillars of the National Agenda in line with Vision 2021. Our long-term strategy is to invest in high-quality projects that can contribute to achieving this vision.
The Barraquer Ophthalmology Center is among the leading eye clinics worldwide and we are pleased to see that they are looking to establish their advanced ophthalmology capabilities to the UAE to meet eye-care needs in the country and wider region.”
