The Emirates Post has collaborated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Organisation Islamic Cooperation, OIC, with a commemorative stamp.
The release of the stamp also coincides with the 46th Session of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Foreign Ministers, recently hosted in Abu Dhabi for the first time.
The slogan of this year’s event was ’50 Years of Islamic Cooperation: The Roadmap for Prosperity and Development’ and the aim was to strengthen the bonds of unity and cooperation of OIC countries in the field of development.
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said, "The issuance of this stamp commemorating the golden jubilee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation was propitiously concomitant to holding of the 46th Session of OIC Foreign Ministers in Abu Dhabi, as we celebrate the role of the second largest intergovernmental organisation after the United Nations in strengthening the bonds of joint Islamic action."
Abdulla Mohammad Alashram, Acting Group CEO of Emirates Post Group commented, "We are proud to collaborate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to issue this commemorative stamp to celebrate the golden jubilee of the OIC. It is all the more significant given that UAE has been chosen to host this year’s session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC during the Year of Tolerance, a virtue that is intrinsic to Islamic culture. We congratulate OIC on reaching this milestone and wish them continued success in achieving their objectives of peace, security and development."
The OIC is the second largest intergovernmental organisation after the United Nations. The OIC represents the collective voice of the Islamic world and seeks to protects its interests in order to nurture international peace and harmony and promote relations between countries of the world.
The first Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 1970, leading to the establishment of a General Secretariat based in Jeddah, chaired by the Secretary General of the Organisation.
