Zulekha Healthcare Group has launched a new cardiac social fund, “Nabd Al Khair” (Pulse of Goodness), by co-investing with Dar Al Ber Society to make advanced cardiac care affordable and accessible to all communities in UAE. The initiative honours the “Year of Zayed” celebrating the legacy of giving back to the community and promoting the strong values of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE.
The initiative, which exclusively serves the cardiac medical needs of those less fortunate, was launched in an event at The Address Boulevard – Dubai in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Policy and Licensing Sector in the Ministry of Health and Prevention, His Excellency Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Executive Director of Dar Al Ber from Dar Al Ber Society, His Excellency Mr. Shri Vipul, Consul General of India to Dubai, Dr. Zulekha Daud, Founder and Chairperson of Zulekha Healthcare Group, Managing Director Mr. Taher Shams, Co-chairperson Mrs. Zanubia Shams.
H.E. Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Executive Director of Dar Al Ber said: "The campaign, entitled ‘Nabed Al Khair’, aims to provide free treatment, healthcare and specialised operations to 200 heart patients by accumulating at least AED seven million and up to 10 million through donations.”
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and the associated burden are increasing in developing countries, particularly in the UAE, and represent a key challenge in healthcare. CVD also accounts for a significant proportion of global deaths caused by non-communicable diseases among individuals aged under 70 (37%). If intervention is not improved, global annual CVD deaths will increase from 17.5 million in 2012 to 22.2 million by the year 2030.*
In line with this, His Excellency stressed that the launch of this humanitarian health campaign comes in conjunction with Dar Al Ber’s initiatives for the Year of Zayed. Through such projects, each initiative strives to nurture the great legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan through performing good deeds and humanitarian projects, and by strengthening the instilled values of the UAE’s Founding Father.
Al Falasi pointed out that the campaign aims to raise the levels of awareness around heart disease and to ensure that patients in need are helped through Zulekha Healthcare Group where skilled specialists perform complex procedures on heart patients with the latest medical equipment.
“Donations for this expanded humanitarian campaign are welcomed from any public or private company, institution or individual who wishes to support the research and services provided for those suffering from heart disease—one of the largest causes of death in the region and world,” said Al Falasi. “The campaign is targeted towards heart patients in need of an operation—patients of all ages and from every walk of life.”
Zanubia Shams, Zulekha Hospital Co-chairperson added: “We are excited to launch the “Nabd Al Khair” social fund in association with Dar Al Ber Society to help save deserving lives and assist in the financial burden of such medical care. We already established our exclusive Cardiology Centre of Excellence which is well-equipped with the latest innovations and technologies in cardiac care along with high-profile experts including pediatric cardiologists and CABG surgeons from various specialties catering to complexities in cardiac care. We are able to manage and treat congenital emergencies in children too,”
Shams concluded: “We’d like to thank Dar Al Ber Society for their partnership in this drive, and we’d also like to thank the Indian consulate for always supporting our community initiatives.”
Al Falasi added: “Patients selected for approved services will immediately begin treatment,” pointing to prioritising treatment for patients with emergency cases requiring immediate surgery.
The individuals who cannot afford to pay for high-end cardiac treatments can approach Dar Al Ber and Zulekha Healthcare Group for assistance. The hospital’s facilities in Dubai and Sharjah attend and treat approximately 80 to 100 cardiac cases in a month in Dubai and Sharjah individually. Since the launch of their Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (CTVS) and Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) last year, the hospital has successfully performed 22 procedures.
