Over the weekend almost 200 Dubai Duty Free management and staff, including their family and members of its Kids Enviro Club participated in the ‘Walk for Education 2018' led by Dubai Cares, the UAE-based philanthropic organisation working to improve access to quality primary education for children in developing countries.
Joining several thousand other UAE residents and organisations, Dubai Duty Free support for Dubai Cares is in line with the company's Corporate Social Responsibility goals, specifically those aimed at benefiting children.
For the past nine years, Dubai Cares have engaged residents and organisations to walk in solidarity with millions of children who walk long distances to go to school. The organisation, which is part of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Global Initiatives, said the walk is considered its second initiative this year to mark and celebrate the ‘Year of Zayed 2018’.
The “Walk for Education” which took place at Gate 2 of the Dubai Creek Park, next to Al Garhoud Bridge., was a 3-kilometers walk that symbolizes the distance children in developing countries walk every day to go to school. The walk started at 9am, and lasted a total of 45 minutes.
Dubai Duty Free’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Colm McLoughlin commented on the initiative: ”We are delighted to lend our support to this initiative for the fifth year, and it is fantastic to see such a huge response from our own employees and families as well as the wider community which grows each year.”
Dubai Duty Free is a longtime supporter of Dubai Cares and an active participant of the Walk for Education since 2014.
