Emirates Institution For Advanced Science & Technology
Established by a Dubai Government decree in 2006, the Emirates Institute for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) is yet another strategic initiative by the rulers of the UAE which demonstrates that visions don’t have boundaries. Primarily aimed at inspiring scientific innovation and fostering technological advancement in the UAE, EIAST promises to be the springboard for promoting sustainable development and enhancing economic growth in the Emirates and beyond.Formed with a vision of becoming a world-class science and technology organisation, the institute is well on its way towards achieving its goal with a series of significant projects in the pipeline. It has in its purview a key role in promoting effective means of using highly sophisticated technologies and accurate spatial information for a variety of applications. The institute’s four fold function agenda includes promoting the culture of advanced scientific research and technology innovation in Dubai and the UAE, creating an internationally competitive base for human skills development, positioning Dubai and the UAE as a science and technology development hub among advanced nations and establishing international collaborative links and joint projects with industry and research organisations.
EIAST’s space program is striving to make the UAE an internationally recognized hub for pioneering space systems and for innovative services and applications based on those space systems.
EIAST space program includes three main themes:
•Earth Observation
•Satellite Navigation
•Satellite Communications
Emirates Science Research Centre (ESRC) is a new division established by EIAST to carry out scientific research to develop renewable and sustainable energy and water sources for Dubai. The center seeks to be a leader in applying advanced technology and adhering to international quality standards through:
•Contribution towards increasing the total national energy and water supply through alternative and renewable sources.
•Creating an energy mix for future power demands to avoid relying on a single energy source.
•Establish a nanotechnology research laboratory relating to methods of increasing power generation efficiencies.
•Establish technologies relating to the efficient use of energy
•Conducting groundbreaking research in solar power, battery, fuel cell, hydrogen generation and storage, and alternative water desalination technologies
