Sharjah International Airport has put together one of the best
technical teams in the business, responsible for a range of
specialist skills required for the "behind-the-scenes"
operation, responsible for four main areas of the airport's
operation - Air Traffic Control, Meteorological Service, Fire
and Rescue Service and Ground Services Equipment. Considerable
investment is continually made to ensure that the airport is
kept at the leading edge of aviation services.
Sharjah International Airport is one of the largest cargo hubs
in the Middle East and the largest sea-air hub is Asia. It has
five cargo terminals with a total floor area of 32,000 square
metres served by separate cargo aircraft parking positions,
equipped for loading 14 narrow bodied or 10 wide bodied aircraft
or a combination of both. Two additional cargo aircraft parking
areas are also available to accommodate up to 16 narrow bodied
aircraft of different types.
In recognition of the achievements, The Institute of Transport
Management has awarded Sharjah International Airport with its
'Global Air Cargo Airport 2000' award from the London- based
Institute of Transport Management (ITM). Sharjah was named global
airport of the year. The award was presented by one of the ITM's
directors Patrick Sheedy at a prestigious awards ceremony at
the London Hilton.
Many airlines have benefited from the services and facilities
we offer. Lufthansa has its largest network hub in Sharjah with
approximately 300 flights every month outside of Frankfurt.
Also operating here are Singapore Airlines, SAS, Cathay, Eva
Air, Egypt Air, Gulf Air, Condor Airlines, Transavia, Premiair
and other airlines, which expect and accept nothing less than
the highest standards.
