Etisalat completes 95 percent SIM registrations

Etisalat has successfully completed registering 95 percent of its entire database of mobile customers under the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, TRA, initiative ‘My Mobile, My Identity’, as the deadline for SIM card registrations draws to a close on July 16th. Etisalat has followed U.A.E. TRA’s ‘Registration Requirements for Mobile Consumers’ campaign, which began in mid-2012, in order to record and update all of Etisalat’s customer information. The primary objective of the mandate is to protect customers from confidentiality infringement and to minimize hazards of illegal SIM cards.

"To avoid disconnection, Etisalat’s non-registered mobile customers are encouraged to visit any of Etisalat Business Centres and Points of Sales (POS) during Ramadan operational hours from 8 am to 5 pm (Sunday – Thursday) and 8 am to 1 pm on Saturday. Customers can also visit the nearest Etisalat outlet in malls across the U.A.E., operating as per mall timings," the telecom operator said today.

Another easy registration option includes the online channel through the website for subscribers to start the process online and complete it at an Etisalat point of sales or outlet to authenticate customer details.

Customers can enquire about their registration status by calling the toll-free number 800121, available in four languages: Arabic, English, Urdu and Malayalam. Alternatively, they can call *171# from their mobile phones to get information about their registration status, it added.

"The registration policy requires mobile subscribers to produce valid and original identification documents at any of Etisalat’s kiosks available across the country along with a copy of proof of identity." Documents include Emirates ID or passport for U.A.E. nationals, GCC National ID or passport for GCC nationals, and the Emirates ID or passport along with valid residence visa for all other nationalities. "Business and government customers must present a valid establishment card issued by the Ministry of Interior in the U.A.E.", Etisalat said.
