Facebook users reach 1 billion
Facebook announced today that one billion people are using the platform at least once a month. Since its launch, 1.13 trillion likes and 140.3 billion friend connections were generated, with 219 billion photos shared since the launch of this application in the fall of 2005, which represent the total number of photos currently on the site, excluding deleted photos. Facebook also revealed that 17 billion check-ins were made, which included location-tagged posts.Statistics disclosed by Facebook also show that 62.6 million songs have been played 22 billion times - that’s about 210,000 years of music - and represents song plays since the launch of music-listening applications in September 2011.
Commenting on this milestone, Mr. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, Facebook, said: This morning there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month. Thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you. Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life."
Facebook also revealed that 2.45 billion content items and 2.7 billion "Likes" are shared every day on Facebook and more than 300 million photos are uploaded daily.
As for the mobile usage, statistics showed that 600 million people are using Facebook on mobile devices at least once a month. Facebook is accessed from more than 7,000 different types of mobile devices and drives 170 million referrals to Apple’s App Store and Google Play every month.
Numbers also showed that 185,000 iOS and Android apps are built with Facebook integration and 55% of the top 40 grossing iOS apps are integrated with Facebook.
According to Facebook, more than nine million apps and websites are integrated with Facebook and more than 7,000 timeline apps have been launched since Open Graph opened to all developers in Jan 2012. Facebook App Center has more than 220 million monthly active users and more than 235 million people play games on Facebook.com every month.
Mr. Zuckerberg concluded: "I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too."
