Children’s City Hosts New Adventure Surprises
The Planetarium at Children’s City in the Creek Park has started two new shows called "Molecularium," and "Under the Weather," said Nila Al Mansouri, Acting Head of Children’s City.According to Al Mansouri these shows were selected as they are attractive means of edutainment for children that develop several skills.
"The "Under the Weather" show deals with the topic of climate and weather in a thrilling way and through this show, children can learn all about the weather on the earth and the rest of the planets of the solar system," she said.
The "Molecularium" show presents the world of atoms and molecules, where the loveable characters, Molecularium, favourites of children come for the purpose of introducing them the world of atoms and molecules in an advanced scientific and interesting manner according to the latest techniques used for three-dimensional animation.
The Planetarium system at the Children’s City is characterized by the display of animated three-dimensional films so that the viewer is surrounded by animated pictures on all sides. The screen covers an area of 288 square meters and it is the largest digital display in the UAE with six channels.
It offer displays of a variety of three-dimensional films from all sides to give the unique of its kind visual effect in which scientific information is transferred in an enjoyable way. The quality of picture and sound provide a greater opportunity to get deep into the educational material presented to the children and school students in particular.
The educational and recreational shows take visitors on trips through the universe to discover the solar system and outer space, using the technique of showing the films on a giant hemispherical screen, one of its kind in the country and the Middle East, which fascinates visitors who are accustomed to watching movies on flat cinema screens. The 100-seat planetarium can run 10 shows maximum per day and are therefore the capacity of the planetarium is 1,000 visitors per day, or 365,000 visitors a year.
"The new display system provides an opportunity for students, especially the children in the UAE, the discovery of the universe and the solar system in an interesting way contrary to the old three-dimensional slide system. The shows are accompanied by exciting offers of educational workshops according to the age of the children and their academic levels so as to consolidate what they have seen in the Planetarium," said Al Mansouri.
