Al Bastakiya
Al Bastakiya being planned for a new look A historic building at the Al Bastakiya area dating back to 1918 is in a process to be renovated by the Dubai Municipality. The renovation began in December 2001.The building will be turned into a museum housing historic coins from the Arabic and Islamic era. It is Dubai Municipality’s long-term plan to restore rich cultural, heritage and architectural landmarks in Dubai to former glory.
Dubai Municipality is planning to renovate all the historic buildings of the Bastakiya area to open more museums, galleries, restaurants and traditional markets. The building consists of two floors and one of two entrances is located in the north. The first floor consists of two bedrooms, which have traditional windows. There is a kitchen, separate bathrooms for the bedrooms and two storerooms, one in each floor. There is a large room on the upper story, which includes traditional windows, a hall and a bathroom.
The Bastakiya district is a step back in time, loaded with traditional courtyard houses, bedecked with wind towers, and has been earmarked for tourist development, with the construction of a museum, cultural Centre, and an art gallery that showcases local talent.
