U.A.E. Golf Association
The U.A.E Golf Association (UGA) was formed in 1996 and is the Governing Body for Amateur Golf in the United Arab Emirates. It is overseen by a Board of Directors under the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare and is affiliated to the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, WAGC, Ladies Golf Union, the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, the GCC Golf Committee and the Arab Golf Federation. The UGA promotes & supports the Dubai Desert Classic.UGA is a non-profit making organisation that has a 3 fold mission statement: 1. Increase the awareness of golf in U.A.E 2. Junior Development 3. National Golf Team In September 1998 an extensive Junior Development Programme for children aged 7-15, both U.A.E Nationals and Expatriates, involving over 130 children began throughout the U.A.E.
Membership of the UGA falls into 3 categories 1.Club Affiliate membership 2.Affiliate membership 3.UGA Handicap Privileges of UGA are generally golf related and include: 1.Privileged rates for green fees, lessons and Pro Shop purchases at Golf Clubs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. 2.Privileged prices on range balls at selected clubs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. 3.Privileged access to Professional Golf Tournaments held in the U.A.E. 4.Privileged prices on golf and other sporting equipment at selected retail outlets. 5.In addition to the above privileges, Handicap Scheme members receive an official handicap (conditions apply) administered along the guidelines of CONGU handicap system, which is accepted worldwide for handicap purposes and opportunity to play in regular Handicap Scheme Monthly Medals.
