Dubai is a Smart City
A Smart City is an urban area that employs Information and Communication technologies to connect the city together, collect data from different parts of the city, which leads to sustainable development and high quality of life. Smart cities lie in the intersection of The Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. These two technologies combined lead to the creation of a Smart City. The Dubai Police has taken the help of Artificial Intelligence to ensure a smooth and safe operation of the city. When we think of AI, the first thing that comes to most of our minds are Robots. Well that fantasy is reality In the Dubai Police Department. This Robot contains cameras embedded with face recognition technology (Computer Vision) that can quickly scan vehicle number plates and faces against the police database.
Smart signals have been installed in prime locations all over Dubai. This project is administered by the RTA (Road and Transport Authority). Smart signals have made it safer for pedestrians to cross and has improved vehicle flow. These signals have sensors that is synchronized with the lights. The sensors calculate the number of pedestrians on the pavement while they are on the pavement and after crossing. Based on these calculations the frequency of the change in signal light and time of signal is adjusted.
One of the areas of development is autonomous transportation to make transportation smoother and easier. These autonomous vehicles include air taxis and autonomous helicopters. Air Taxis are designed such that they are able to transport passengers from one location to another above ground at speeds up to 100km/h. The autonomous helicopters is of similar concept and are designed like drones.
Dubai Airport has adapted a face a recognition system at immigration counters. This face recognition system is part of the Smart Tunnel. The Smart Tunnel aims at removal of travel documents making the operation much more efficient. The government’s main role is to completely get rid of human staff and depend on Artificial Intelligence only.
U.A.E.’s prime goal is to make sure that Artificial Intelligence is integrated through the country and the continuous advancement of it.
